Anyone who has ever had anything to do with movie making knows that the translation from script to screen can be an interminable process. Which is why you have not yet seen the film version of The Perfect Distance (check right on home page), which was mooted at least two years ago.

But the good news is that Oscar winning screenwriter Simon Beaufoy was enlisted a few months ago to turn the original, ahem, base material (ie the book) into gold. The final draft from the man who brought you The Full Monty and Slumdog Millionaire is due at any moment.

Delays in the making of a film are inevitable; and the addition of an Oscar winner to relay the story of two Olympic winners (and much else) means that the finished product will only be better for Simon’s involvement.

All things being equal, which they rarely are, the casting will follow shortly, and shooting will begin soon after.

Will keep you posted.
