Join Glitnir Copenhagen Marathon 2008 on a beautiful course and with perfect service from start to finish. The start and finish is on the waterfront by the Royal Library – the Black Diamond, less than 1000 m from The Main Terminal, The Town Hall, and Tivoli.

The field will line up in Vester Voldgade and will be divided according to the expected finish time to allow a smooth start. The start gun fires at 9:30 am.

Beautiful Course through City

The course takes you through the beautiful old streets of Copenhagen and passes many of the major sights, well worth a second visit after the race.

The spectator friendly course consists of 3 loops. The 1st and 3rd loop (almost identical) take runners through Nørrebro, Østerbro, and Langelinje and past the start/goal area. The 2nd loop passes through Vesterbro and again through the goal area.

Accordingly, spectators can find several spots along the route where the runners will pass several times. The 1st and 3rd loop feature The Town Hall and the busy shopping street (‘Strøget’) and later The Little Mermaid, ‘Kastellet’, The Royal Palace and the parliament (Chritiansborg) in the harbor/Langelinje district. Furthermore, runners will run through ‘Fælledparken’ (passing the Danish national football arena ‘Parken’) and by the city lakes, which both are frequently visited tracks by native runners. The 2nd loop features Vestre Kirkegaard and The Carlsberg Bridge.

Music and entertainment on the route

Entertainment along the course is important for both runners and spectators; at least 13 bands along the course will encourage race participants to a spectacular finish. Several cafés are offering their service for the spectators along the racecourse.

Pace Setters

Teams of pace setters are prepared to help you succeed by setting an even pace through the race. You are welcome to join one of the 8 pace groups with finishing times from 3 to 5 hours. The groups will arrive in the goal area in 15 min increments with finish times of 3.00, 3.15, 3.30, 3.45, 4.00, 4.15, 4.30 and 5 hours.

Liquid, fruit and 1st aid

For each 4 km water and isotonic sport liquid will be offered and fruit is available by the 12, 16 and 28 km posts. At all stations port-a-johns and 1st aid help are located.

Personal photographs

Photomotion will record images of the runners along the route – so do not forget to smile. Following the race, please find and purchase your image(s) on www.photomotion.dk.

Timing

The Glitnir Copenhagen marathon will use a computer chip timing device, operated by Events4U, to register your accurate finish time. The chip must be attached to your shoe (tied to your shoelace) from start to finish and must be returned to a Sparta official after the race.

The computer chip enables us to accurately measure the net time of your marathon. It ensures that your official time is recorded when you step on the mat by the start line and terminates as you cross the finish line. The chip will also record your half-marathon time.

Finish

Successful finishers will be greeted with a heating blanket and a prestigious medal. In addition, all female finishers will be awarded a red rose. Immediate restitution following a full marathon race is very important and accordingly bread, yogurt, fruit and hot coco are offered in the goal area – and to celebrate your effort also a sip of complimentary Carlsberg beer.

Massage and bath

Tents offering bath – and dressing facilities are located in the controlled luggage area where you also find a team of masseurs ready to service finishers’ weary legs.

Marathon Expo

You must collect your start-kit containing your race number, timing chip, T-shirt and other sponsor gifts at the Marathon Expo, at the Skating Arena (Østerbro Skøjtehal) on P. H. Lings Allé 6, 2100 Copenhagen Ø. The Marathon Expo is open from 2pm – 8pm on Thursday the 15th , 12am – 8pm on Friday the 16th and 10am – 8pm on Saturday the 17th of May.

At the Marathon Expo, exhibitors display and sell just about all the leading brands in attire, running shoes, pulse-watches and sports drinks. You may also treat yourself with a massage at the Musculus stand, meet the pace runners or buy a serving of pasta, which will give you the energy to race for the line. Expo admission is free.
