A first group of national team leaders from the Netherlands, the Czech Republic, Italy and Germany praised the facilities ahead of the European Athletics Team Championships in Braunschweig which will be held from 21-22 June.

The overall reactions were extremely positive as they visited the Eintracht Stadium where the competition will take place, and training grounds in Rüningen as well as the hotels which will accommodate the teams.

Siegfried Schonert the German representative said, “This event represents an important intermediate stage between the 2009 World Championships and the 2018 European Athletics Championships held in Berlin.

“We are setting the highest organisation standards for ourselves.”

Food is one of the most important factors at these kinds of events and Braunschweig is prepared to offer a variety of choices for athletes with hotels having put forth several different menu suggestions.

The state of the art training facilities were much appreciated by Czech Republic’s Tomasz Dvorak, the former decathlon world record holder and 3-time world champion.

“We have some beautiful training centres in the Czech Republic, but this one is really something special,” he said.

Easily accessible to the athletes and situated close to the stadium, the training grounds are also equipped with all necessary athletics instruments.

“In many championships throwers, runners and jumpers have to practise separately but here you can find everything in one place, so teams can stay together,” said Francesco Tamboriello, the Italian team leader.
