„Everybody Waltz“ on New Year’s Eve and at the Vienna City Marathon/Austria
"Everybody Waltz" is the theme tune for the Vienna City Marathon 2014. Perhaps the best known Waltz composition, the "Blue Danube" by Johann Strauss, has a special significance both for the VCM and Austria.
Did you know that …
– The title of the Blue Danube is only an abbreviation for its full name which is “By the Beautiful Blue Danube”?
– the Blue Danube was played in front of Parliament on 29 April, 1945, when Austria achieved its independence after the Second World War, because there was no official national anthem at the time?
– The Science Fiction Classic [2001 A Space Odyssey] by Stanley Kubrick had made the Blue Danube Waltz famous throughout the world?
– The Blue Danube is the first to be heard on every television and radio channel of the Austrian state broadcaster ORF in the opening minutes of each new year?
– The Blue Danube has never been part of the main programme played by the Vienna Philharmonic on New Year's Day, but is always played as an encore?
– The Blue Danube, like in previous years, will be played at the start of the Vienna City Marathon 2014?
The team of the Vienna City Marathon wishes you a healthy and successful year 2014!
