European Masters Games Lignano 2011 – Great champions at the European Masters Games
Among the participants in the European Masters Games Lignano 2011 there will also be some champions who, in spite of the many competitions and titles won over the years, still want to put themselves in the game and compete.
Volleyball and karate, in particular, will be represented by athletes who have made the history of these sports being the protagonists of several international competitions.
Franco Bertoli and Luca Cantagalli will participate in the beach volley competitions; they won several times in Italy between 1980 and 1988 (Bertoli) and between 1986 and 1996 (Cantagalli) but, above all, playing together, they won two Olympic medals (a bronze medal in Los Angeles in 1984 and a silver medal in Atlanta in 1996) and two World Championship gold medals (in Rome in 1990 and in Athens in 1994). In Lignano they will play together again to re-experience those unforgettable moments.
On the other hand, the karate competitions will see the participation of Giuseppe Formenton, who was Italian champion several times and for several years was among the first at international kumite championships, one of the components of karate.
Giuseppe Formenton also won the prestigious world masters championships in Okinawa in 2007 and has recently won two gold metals (kata and kumite) at Taiwan-Taipei masters games, where he represented the European Masters Games Lignano 2011 on behalf of the organizing committee.
Everything is ready in Friuli Venezia Giulia, come and join us! Compete with great sports champions!
