European Marathon Champion Ulrike Maisch and Martin Beckmann lead the German team for the IAAF World Championships in Athletics, Osaka, Japan (25 Aug – 2 Sep 2007).

Maisch, was selected based on her surprising victory at the European Championships last year in Gothenburg with a personal best of 2:30:01.

The rest of women’s squad consists of Luminita Zaituc and Melanie Kraus who met the standard of 2:32:00.

Luminita Zaituc (PB 2:26:01/Frankfurt 2001) met the DLV standard by winning last weekends Düsseldorf marathon, clocking 2:29:37. Melanie Kraus, with a personal best of 2:27:58 from the 2000 Berlin marathon, was runner up in the same race with 2:30:38, also meeting the standard.

29-year-old Martin Beckmann (PB 2:15:06/Berlin 2004) leads the Men’s squad based on his 2:15:22 performance at the Hamburg marathon on April 29th. Mario Kröckert set a new personal best at the Düsseldorf marathon with 2:16:07 hours and was selected to the Osaka squad as well. The final member of the men’s team is oldie Ulrich Steidl (PB 2:13:56/Pyongyang 2000) who was the first German in the Boston marathon, finishing 12th overall.

Additionally Claudia Dreher (PB 2:27:55/Hannover 1999) and Susanne Hahn (PB 2:32:34/Rotterdam 2006) were selected to complete the women’s world cup team. Both met the IAAF team standard of 2:42:00 hours.
