European Athletics was well represented at the Lausanne Marathon on Sunday 25 October, with six staff members running the 10km as part of a team.

Over 13,000 runners in total were treated to beautiful weather conditions, ideal for running, and there were smiles to be seen all around the lakeside with participants of all ages.

Our European Athletics team in the 10km race, composed of Christian Milz (50:42) and Alexandre Milz (53:53), James Mulligan (40:13), Alessio Punzi (48.56), François Schrurs (50:40) and Christian Velarde (41:55), took 27th place in the team standings.

Each staff member's efforts underlined the "Your Sport for Life" message that European Athletics actively promotes in all its initiatives.

A three-person European Athletics team has triumphed in the 2nd annual AISTS Sports Quiz Night, defeating other prestigious sports organisations' teams from the IOC, FIVB, FIH, FEI, as well as teams of students of the AISTS Masters of Sports Administration.

Held at the Maison du Sport International in Lausanne, the Quiz consisted of 25 questions relating to general sports knowledge and the winning team, comprising  James Mulligan, Peter Sanderson and François Schrurs, were awarded a 400 CHF gift certificate to be used at the Hotel Royal Savoy.

The event organised by AISTS was a great success with 19 teams competing for the prize and the bragging rights that go along with winning. With a score of 19 correct answers out of 25 European Athletics secured the title by a clear margin and we look forward to defending our title next year.

One of the questions relating to European Athletics was:

“We all know of Usain Bolt’s ‘Lightning Bolt’ celebration but what is the name of long-distance legend Mo Farah’s celebration?”

Thankfully, European Athletics was able to provide the correct answer to this particular question, and powered on to a famous victory.
