Swedish sprint star Susanna Kallur and new Russian High Jump sensation Ivan Ukhov have been voted the European Athletes of the Month for January.
25-year-old Kallur, the defending European sprint hurdles champion, both indoors and out, clocked up a month of the highest quality with four top class wins, doubling up in the 60m and 60m Hurdles in both Glasgow and Gothenburg.
Currently the fastest 60m hurdler in Europe by .14 of a second, Kallur will be the hottest of hot favourites to retain her title at next months European Athletics Indoor Championships in Birmingham.
For 20-year-old Ukhov, January surpassed all his expectations when he improved his personal best by 6cm to set a new Russian High Jump record and in the process became the sixth highest jumper ever indoors when he cleared 2.39m to win the Russian Winter Cup in Moscow on January 28th.
He won all three of his competitions in January, clearing 2.30m in his other two wins and will be confident of adding a European Athletics Indoor title to the European Indoor Cup gold from 2006 and the European Athletics Junior gold of 2005.

The European Athlete of the Month initiative is designed to recognise outstanding performers at all levels of the sport in Europe. European Athletics will name a male and female winner each month and feature the athlete on the European Athletics website. Selections are based on votes by the public and the media with each counting for 50% of the final vote. The winners will automatically be short listed for the European Athlete of the Year Award.
