Cooly, the Zürich 2014 European Athletics Championships ambassador and mascot, will be busy in the next two years before the start of the next edition of the continent's top athletics event as he will visit no less than 17 running events across Switzerland.

The visits will not only promote the Championships but reinforce the link between Zürich 2014 and the Swiss athletics family at-large.

The 17 renowned running events are Official Running Partners of Zürich 2014 and they also hold shares in the organisation's business entity Leichtathletik EM 2014 AG.

“Fortunately, there are many excellent, well-organised running events in Switzerland. Zürich 2014 will be able to benefit from their know-how and their experience,” commented the Zürich 2014 chief executive Patrick Magyar earlier this week.

“At the same time, we can reward their volunteers with an opportunity to be part of a very special event, and thank them for their huge commitment to our sport.”

The 500 volunteers required for the marathon and race walking events at Zürich 2014 will be recruited from the personnel already working with the 17 Official Running Partners.

The 2014 European Athletics Championships which will take place from 12 to 17 August that summer.

Cooly, the cool cow, enjoys cult status in Switzerland after being a hugely popular mascot during the 2009 IHF (ice hockey) World Championships, and made its comeback at the famous Weltklasse Zürich meeting on 30 August.

“We are very proud to have been able to sign a star mascot for the Championships," Magyar had earlier explained.

“The Championships represent a unique highlight for the world of sport in Switzerland. Clearly, the most renowned mascot of the country must be part of it.”

In addition to saying hello to the Zürich 2014 Official Running Partners, Cooly will make more than 100 other appearances in the next two years.
