Approximately 400,000 copies of the magazine are distributed free, annually, to member races of AIMS. These magazines are then passed on to runners through distribution channels designated by the member race – such as in registration packs, in finisher bags, or from an AIMS booth at the member's race expo.

Runners who wish to receive their own personal copy by post each quarter should contact the publishers for information on subscriptions (Gary@Distancerunning.co.uk).

Distance Running carries a 15-month rolling calendar and full contact details of AIMS member events (both also available elsewhere on this website). Other regular items include a listing of world leading times at the Marathon, half Marathon and 10km distances and a full listing of AIMS member races' results (and reports with pictures where supplied). Again – these are also available elsewhere on this website.

There are AIMS and IAAF news pages, along with news pages of other worldwide organisations dedicated to the promotion of distance running: the International Association of Ultrarunners (for distances greater than the marathon), and the World Mountain Running Association.

The magazine also carries several in-depth feature articles about particular races held within the last quarter, and the occasional "Opinion" feature.

These articles are presented below, according to the edition in which they appeared (in reverse chronological order).
