DETROIT – The Detroit Free Press Marathon has announced the addition of Talmer Bank and Trust as its co-title sponsor. Formerly First Michigan Bank, Talmer Bank and Trust is now the fifth-largest Michigan based bank, with 54 branches, more than 800 employees and $2.3 billion in assets.
The new race name will be Detroit Free Press Talmer Bank Marathon.
"We are proud to welcome Talmer Bank and Trust as the co-title sponsor. We look forward to working with Talmer Bank to develop a partnership that enhances the event for all of our participants," said Rich Harshbarger, executive race director. "Race weekend could not happen without the support of our sponsors, volunteers and the help of so many others. Talmer Bank's investment is truly an investment in our community," Harshbarger said.
"We are excited to play a key role in the Detroit Free Press Marathon, which continues to challenge and push people to reach new achievements in their lives," said David Provost, chairman, president and CEO of Talmer Bank and Trust. "Events such as this enrich our community and bring people together for health information, fitness and plain old fun."
The Detroit Free Press Marathon began in 1977 and has received multiple awards and distinctions. Most recently Rodale Publishing named Detroit as one of the 10 best races for first-time marathoners and Competitor Magazine named Detroit's "underwater mile" one of the 26 most memorable marathon miles in 2010.
Race weekend begins with a health and fitness expo that is free and open to the public. Race distances include 5K, half-marathon, 5-person relay and full marathon. This year's events will take place Friday to Sunday, October 14-16, 2011 and participants may register online at www.freepmarathon.com
