COMRADES MARATHON – 2013 Comrades Marathon Entries Rising

Just two weeks into the 2013 Comrades Marathon entry process, the Comrades Marathon Association (CMA) is pleased to announce that entries are coming in thick and fast, with the entry tally currently standing at 4727.

Prospective entrants have until 30 November 2012 or as soon as the cap of 18000 entries has been reached to get their entries in. Thereafter, no entries will be accepted so runners are urged to enter as soon as possible or risk missing out.

The new increased entry fee of R320 will kick in on 1 October 2012 until the entry process is closed. Local runners are therefore encouraged to take advantage of the CMA’s ‘early bird’ entry fee of R300 before month-end.

Runners from the Rest of Africa will be charged an entry fee of R500 and the cost to International athletes is $US180.

The entry requirements, which are clearly indicated on the entry form, must be adhered to at all times or runners risk losing their place at the Start.

Entries may be effected as follows:
• online via the Comrades Marathon website: www.comrades.com;
• at Mr Price Sport, Home and Clothing stores countrywide;
• through the post by posting the completed entry form with proof of payment to the CMA Office in Pietermaritzburg: P.O. Box 100621, Scottsville, 3209;
• Comrades Marathon House: by handing in the completed entry form together with payment at the CMA office in Pietermaritzburg. 

After the phenomenal 2012 event, the organisers are confident of a mind-blowing race, come Sunday, 2 June 2013. Being an ‘up-run’, the traditional gunfire goes off outside Durban’s City Hall at 05h30 and go off again 12 hours later at The Cricket Oval in Pietermaritzburg to signal the end of the 86.9km road-running challenge.

CMA Race Director, Johan Van Staden says, ‘With the interest in the Comrades Marathon growing year on year, we anticipate a flood of entries in the coming weeks. We already have nearly a quarter of our entry tally filled up in just the first two weeks of our entry process.’

Van Staden adds, ‘We are really encouraging our local runners to rise to the occasion and make hay while the sun shines by taking advantage of our ‘early bird’ entry fee of R300.’

Please note that runners may enter the great race prior to running a qualifying race (minimum qualifying distance of 42.2km). Qualifying details must be submitted to the CMA by 6 May 2013.
