Coming up … AIMS races – this weekend – The Amman International Marathon – Dong-A Ilbo Gyeongju International Marathon – the 29th HYX Beijing International Marathon – the Istanbul Eurasia Marathon

The Amman International Marathon takes place on Saturday 17 October in the Jordanian capital with a scenic course starting at the Amman Municipality and finishing at the Roman amphitheatre in the city centre.

On 18 October the Dong-A Ilbo Gyeongju International Marathon is run in Korea on a circular course from Hwangsung Park, starting at 08.00. A little further west the 29th HYX Beijing International Marathon and associated events entertain 28,000 runners, of whom 7000 run the full distance.

Over in Europe, or rather just outside it, the Istanbul Eurasia Marathon crosses the Bosphorus from Asia to Europe and finishes adjacent to Hagia Sofia and the Blue Mosque. In neightbouring Romania the second edition of the Bucharest International Marathon takes place.

At the other end of the Mediterranean Sea the Maraton del Mediterraneo is nearly all run within metres of the shoreline through small towns just outside Barcelona. Also flat and low-lying, the 34th Amsterdam Marathon starts and finishes in the old Olympic Stadium and replicates part of the 1928 Olympic Marathon route along the Amstel River.

In a slightly different approach the St Denis Half Marathon – la Voie Royale in the town just to the north of the Ville de Paris offers a two-lap course in which runners complete the second lap by running through the Stade de France just before finishing.

Across the Atlantic the 15th Goodlife Toronto Marathon is run along the city's famous Yonge Street to a downtown finish at Queen's Park. Then way down south, across the Rio Grande and into Mexico, the 26th Maraton Internacional de Guadalajara completes the day's action.
