Boston Athletic Association (B.A.A.) – Exclusive Three-Race Registration Window Will Extend for One Week.
The B.A.A. Distance Medley will begin with the B.A.A. 5K on April 14, 2013, followed by the B.A.A. 10K on June 23, and the B.A.A. Half Marathon, presented by Dana-Farber Cancer Institute and the Jimmy Fund, on October 13. Each of the three races will have its own prize purse. In addition, the male and female B.A.A. Distance Medley champions will earn $100,000 in prize money. The individual male and female series champions will be determined by the lowest cumulative gun time over the three races.
“Based on the success of the inaugural B.A.A. Distance Medley in 2012, which helped celebrate our organization’s 125th Anniversary, we are pleased to continue the series in 2013,” said B.A.A. Executive Director Tom Grilk. “The B.A.A. Distance Medley is a series around which many local runners gear their running plans, and it provides a competitive opportunity for interested professional runners.”
Everyone who completes the B.A.A. Distance Medley will receive a special commemorative medal for the series in addition to receiving a finisher’s medal for each race. Each runner will also be listed on the B.A.A. Distance Medley Leader Board, which displays the top male and female competitors throughout the series. Each runner who registers for the entire B.A.A. Distance Medley this January will receive a unique bib number to be used throughout the series indicating they are B.A.A. Distance Medley participants. In 2012, a total of 1492 runners registered for the B.A.A. Distance Medley and 931 runners completed the series.
The B.A.A. Distance Medley registration window of January 23 through January 31 is only available to runners who wish to sign up for all three events in the series. The cost to register for the B.A.A. Distance Medley is $175 (USD). The minimum age for entry into the B.A.A. Distance Medley is 14 years old. Runners interested in registering for only one or two of the three events in the series must do so when registration opens for those individual races.
