Athletics South Africa will have an exhibition stand at the Soweto Festival from 23 – 25 September 2011 where entry forms for the Soweto Marathon will be available from 10:00-18:00.  With only a month left to enter this prestigious race, it is the perfect opportunity to get your entry form and get more information about the race itself.

This year winners of the marathon will receive a whopping R100 000 while 10th place will receive R2000.  The winners of all 10km categories will receive R5000.  There will also be a schools challenge where the school with the most athletes completing the 5km race will receive R5000.  All athletes finishing the race will receive a medal for their participation.

Entries close on 21 October 2011 and penalty fees will apply for all late entries, so it will be best to get your entry in as soon as possible.  Above the penalties, late entries will not receive a goodie bag and T-shirt at number collection.  Entry fees are R110 for the 42.2km and R70 for the 10km race/walk, professional walk and the 10km wheelchair race.  Those entering the 5km fun run will pay R10.  There are no pre entries for the fun run as entries will be taken on race day (6 November) only.

Athletes without a permanent license will also have to acquire one at R30 for the marathon and R15 for all 10km races.

Number collection will take place at Pilditch Stadium in Tshwane (31 October and 1 November), ASA offices in Houghton Estate (2 and 3 November) and at the MTN Expo Centre situated in Nasrec (4 and 5 November). No race numbers, T-shirts or goodie bags will be given out on any other date or location.

To avoid penalty fees for late entries, get your entry form at the Soweto Festival this weekend.  Late entries will cost you R140 for the marathon and R90 for the 10km race/walk, professional walk and the 10km wheelchair race.

Alternatively entry forms are still available at The Sweatshop Irene, The Sweatshop Dunkheld, Beford Runner in Bedfordview, Run-a-way sport Lynwood, Randburg Runner, Running Inn, Sportsmans Warehouse the Glen and the Orlando Community Hall. Online entry forms are available on www.athletics.org.za or www.enteronline.co.za.

The Soweto Marathon will take place on 6 November 2011.
