Athletics South Africa – News – LATE ENTRIES ACCEPTED FOR SOWETO MARATHON

By GRR 0

Wednesday, 24 October 2012 – For athletes still hoping to compete at the Soweto Marathon or associated events, all hope is not lost as late entries will be accepted.  No entries will however be accepted after 3 November at 12h00.

“Late entries will be accepted for those athletes that have missed the date,” says Race Director Simanga Morgan Matholeni.  However, goody bags and t-shirts were only ordered for the athletes who pre-entered, so late entries cannot be guaranteed that they will receive them.

For the first time in the race’s history, the events will be split over two days with the 10km wheelchair race, the 5km fun run and the 10km professional walk taking place on Saturday, 3 November. The only races taking place on Sunday, 4 November will be the 42.2km marathon, as well as the 10km run/walk.

This year winners of the marathon will receive R100 000, while 2nd and 3rd place will earn R50 000 and R25 000 respectively.  The first place winners of all 10km events will receive R5000.

Late entries are only accepted at the Soweto Marathon Race office at the Johannesburg Expo Centre, Office No. 35 Auditorium, Cnr Nasrec and Randshow Road at Nasrec, Johannesburg.

For more information please contact the Soweto Marathon organizing committee on 011 494 3366 or email info@sowetomarathon.com.

The Soweto Marathon is made possible by Netcare 911 (Medical services), Road Accident Fund (Hospitality sponsor), the Johannesburg Expo Centre (venue) and the City of Johannesburg (route logistics).
