WHANGAREI
Northland Road Relay Championships – 22 September 2012

The 61st Waipu relay, which also doubled as the Northland road relay championships, was held on Saturday in fine but windy conditions. Team numbers were down compared with other years with 10 teams competing four legs of 6.1km.
The Whangarei Athletic team of Chris Seely, Mike Gowing, Ian Calder and James Edward was first home in 1h 32m 40s, 1m 12s ahead of Hatea A, of John Kent, Anson Clapcott, Ken Walker and Harry Linford. Hatea B were third.
Whangarei Athletic team of Estelle Tiller, Angela Young, Janice Powell and Amanda Still won the women’s relay, followed by the Hatea team of Freya McCall, Linda King, DJ Gilming and Gillian Trass.
Fastest men’s lap was Harry Linford, Hatea 21m 21s and fastest woman was Amanda Still 26m 08s.

AUCKLAND
Auckland Road Relay Championships, Pakuranga – 23 September 2012

Sub four minute miler Malcolm Hicks carried the day for the Wesley team anchoring them to victory in the senior men’s road relay championship yesterday.
Andrew Haigh had Wesley ahead on the first lap of 5km cut out in 15m 18s. But strong runs from Takapuna’s Stephen Lett and Auckland City’s Jono Jackson on the next lap of nearly 9km had Wesley back in third. Lett ended up with the fastest overall time of 26m 28s for this lap. Wesley remained in third over the next two circuits of Lloyd Elsmore Park before Hicks, the national 3000m champion, stepped up to the mark to cover the final longer lap in 26m 36s. Lewis Jenkin with 14m 53s was the fastest over the 5km leg. The Wesley team was Haigh, Tony Payne, Zeb Stone, Andy Small and Hicks.
Pakuranga won the senior women’s relay over the same 32km distance recording 2h 12m 20s. Lisa Robertson ran the final two laps for Pakuranga and finished with the best times of 17m 18s for the 5km and 30m 4s for the 8.5km.

NELSON
Abel Tasman Classic 36km Trail Run, Awaroa to Marahau – 22 September 2012

Graeme Taylor, second to Phil Costley last year in 2h 31m 2s, went one better and faster this year winning in 2h 27m 5s from Vajin Armstrong 2h 30m 50s and Matthew Pepler 2h 46m 41s. Australian national long distance triathlon representative Michelle McAdam was the first woman in 2h 58m 2s, from Fleur Lattimore 3h 1m 5s and Fleur Pawsey 3h 9m 20s.

CHRISTCHURCH
72nd Takahe to Akaroa Road Relay – 22 September 2012

New Brighton Olympic team of Brett Dawber, Mark Bailey, Dave Ridley, Nick Burrow, Callan Moody, Nick Rennie, Alun Williams and Daniel Balchin won the senior men’s relay in 4h 23m 5s from University of Canterbury 4h 27m 49s and Papanui TocH 4h 29m 11s. The North Canterbury team of Anna Butler, Lucy Oliver, Lee McCulloch, Annabelle White, Adrienne Smith, Fiona Green, Kim Chambers and Angela Whyte won the senior women’s relay in 5h 46m 20s. The B grade went to Christchurch Avon and the C grade to Port Hills.
Sumner won the master men, Christchurch Avon master men B, New Brighton Olympic master men over 50 and Port Hills master men over 60. Port Hills also won the master women. Christchurch Avon Blue won the junior men and St Andrews College won the junior women.

DUNEDIN
Port Chalmers to Dunedin 12.3km handicap Road Race – 22 September 2011

Mike Wakelin clocked the fastest time of 42m 6s, with Neale McLanachan next on 42m 34s and Matt Gibbons 44m 7s. Kirsty O’Sullivan was the fastest woman recording 47m 55s, Megan Balchin was through in 53m 6s and Emma Lloyd 54m 24s. Handicap winners were Aaron Eyles and Kirsty O’Sullivan
