Bringing a national junior championship back to Tasmania for the first time since 2009, the Australian All Schools Championships pit state-versus-state in a points-score system for the Championship Cup. With two athletes per state entitled to compete in each event, the first athlete from each state scores points for their team from eight for first through to one for eighth.

With a Championship Plate also up for grabs for those states with smaller populations, it is hoped the new format will build rivalries over time adding excitement to the opportunity representing you state brings.

Open to athletes competing in an under 14, under 16 and under 18 age group, the Championships start lists includes eight members of the Athletics Australia Under 19 Talent Squad including Australian Spark Mikayla Genge (Tas), Taylah Sengul (NSW), Mitchell Cooper (Qld) and Jay Meaney (Qld).

The Barcelona charges will be joined on entry lists by Matthew Denny (Qld), Nina Kennedy (WA), Daniela Roman (Vic), Tai Denicaucau (NSW), Kirsty Williams (Qld), Alexandra Hulley (NSW), Nathan Brill (Vic) and Mackenzie Little (NSW), all of whom boast qualifiers for next year’s IAAF world youth championships in Donetsk (UKR).

Competition at the Australian All Schools Championships gets underway on Friday, November 30 at 6:00, with the girl’s in the under 18 triple jump the first in action. The boy’s under 18 3000m closes out the program at 3:15pm on Sunday, December 2 with presentations to commence shortly after.

The Australian Schools Knockout Championships this year will welcome 78 teams from 51 schools, including 10 from the host state Tasmania, in the battle for national supremacy.

With titles up for grabs at a senior boys, senior girls, intermediate boys and intermediate girls level, the Schools Knockout welcomes 16 teams in each division with two from each state and the next four best teams based on national ranking invited to compete.

The Australian Schools Knockout Championships will be held on Monday, December 3 from 9:00am at the St Leonards Athletics Centre in Launcestion.

On behalf of Athletics Australia, we wish all athletes competing at the Australian All Schools Championships and the Australian Schools Knockout Championships the best of luck.
