The event grid and season information for the 2012 National Athletics Series, including the Qantas Australian Athletics Tour, has today been released by the Athletics Australia Competitions Department.

Established after lengthy consultation with Athletics Australia’s High Performance coaches to ensure ample qualification opportunities ahead of the IAAF World Championships next year, the event grid will deliver world-class athletics to each and every state.

Andrew Matthews, the Competitions Manager, said: “One of the key deliverables of the event grid is that it encourages our highest profile athletes to come and compete where we host our events. This is made easier when we have the buy-in of their coaches and we thank them for their contribution in establishing the offering for the upcoming season.

“Excitingly for fans though, we have also been able to ensure jam-packed packages of track and field entertainment at each and every meet. Olympian will be on the card in every Australian state and this is great for those that can’t wait to see a new breed of heroes in action next year.”

Athletics Australia is also working to deliver a bounty of international talent to the three Qantas Australian Athletics Tour events in Perth, Sydney and Melbourne. With negotiations continuing, it is hoped that the calibre for 2013 will be as impressive as ever.

Matthews continued: “We are lucky to work with people who have great relationships with some of the biggest names in our sport and I am confident Australian fans will get to see some of the world’s best alongside our home grown stars.

“It is too early to say who at this stage, but early signs suggest athletics fans will be pleased by who takes to the track or field Down Under.”
