Lachlan Renshaw has this morning clocked 1:47.33 for 4th at the adidas Grand Prix as gusty conditions ensured a tough day out for all starters at Round 6 of the Samsung Diamond League in New York (USA).

With line honours taken by former world champion Alfred Kirwa Yego (KEN) in 1:47.33, a slow time by Diamond League standards, Renshaw’s performance in a very strong field proves he can mix it with the world’s best as he continues his push for IAAF world championships selection in the coming months.

Reigning world champion Mbulaeni Mulaudzi (RSA) crossed the line second, while Commonwealth 800m champion Boaz Lalang was third in 1:46.75. 

Meanwhile in the men’s 5000m, local hero and dual world champion Bernard Lagat (13:05.46) was upset in a very tactical race by Dejen Gebremeskel  (ETH, 13:05.22) as Australian Flame David McNeill clocked a season best 13:44.04 for 18th.

In other adidas Grand Prix results:

–       Jamaican Steve Mullings clocked 10.26 into a 3.6 head wind to win the men’s 100m in a very tight photo finish ahead of current world leader Tyson Gay (USA, 10.26).

–       Phillips Idowu (GBR) won the men’s triple jump with a 16.67m (w: -1.9) leap as French world indoor champion Teddy Tamgho placed 7th (15.55m, w: -4.4).

–       The men’s pole vault was won by Frenchman Romain Mesnil as Steve Hooker’s main rival Renaud Lavillenie no-heighted for the first time this year.

–       Swede Emma Tregaro Green soared 1.94m to win the women’s high jump ahead of world champion Blanka Vlasic (CRO, 1.90m)

–       Danielle Carruthers clocked 13.04 (w: -3.7) to win the women’s 100m hurdles, with her next outing in Lausanne (SUI) set to see he line up with Australian star Sally Pearson
