Athletics Australia – News – Chiba team selected

Athletics Australia has today confirmed a team of eight for the International Chiba Ekiden to be held in Chiba (JPN) on 24 November 2014.

Bringing together some of Australia’s best distance athletes as a marathon running relay team, the competing team of six (and two reserves) will travel with a to be announced team staff of three, where they will battle it out from teams from across the globe.

The selected team, including the distances that they will run is as follows:


Women (4):
Madeline Heiner (SA, 5km)
Bridey Delaney (ACT, 5km)
Courtney Powell (VIC, 7.1Km)
Casey Wood (SA, reserve)

Men (4):
Brett Robinson (VIC, 5km)
Jack Rayner (VIC, 10km)
Duer Yoa (VIC, 10km)
David McNeill (VIC, reserve)

Please note that the running order will be determined at a later time.

Since becoming a mixed event, Australia has won gold on three occasions, most recently in 1995. In 2014, the Australian team placed 9th overall as Kenya took victory in a championship record time of 2:03:59 from the host nation Japan (2:07:13).
