Athletics Australia Foundation launched

Following the recent launch of the Athletics Australia Foundation, fans of the sport can now make tax-deductible contributions that will go directly towards supporting athletes.

Established with the assistance of the Australian Sports Foundation Athlete Support Fund, the Athletics Australia Foundation is now accepting donations.  Any contributions over $2 are tax deductible.

The proceeds of any contributions to the Foundation will be used specifically for the purpose of supporting Australian athletes.

Athletics Australia Chief Executive Officer Dallas O’Brien said the establishment of the Foundation was an important step for the sport.

“Every sport needs benefactors, and that need is now even more pressing if we are to truly commercialise athletics as required by the establishment of the Australian Sports Commission’s recent Winning Edge direction,” said O’Brien.  “AA will be actively looking for people who may want to contribute to the sport or even those who may be in a position with a group of people who want to target funding towards specific components of our athletic programs. We will be especially targeting past athletes who now may be in a position to contribute towards supporting our current generation of competitors.”

The family of respected Australian athletics official Greg Gilbert, who passed away recently, chose to give the Foundation a magnificent kick start by requesting Greg’s friends donated to the Athletics Australia Foundation instead of purchasing flowers.

For information on how you can donate to the Athletics Australia Foundation, you can contact Dallas O’Brien on 03 8646 4550 or dallas.obrien@athletics.org.au.
