Arizona Runners Can Rock At a Relay – New 2-Person Half Marathon Relay Announced for P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona

Phoenix, AZ – October 7, 2010 – The P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona has announced a half-marathon relay, which will be held in conjunction with the 8th Annual event on Sunday, January 16, 2011.  For the first time a runner who may not be ready for 26.2 or 13.1-miles of Rock ‘n’ Roll, can now enjoy the excitement and renowned fanfare on race day with a teammate.

The 2-person relay will start at the same time as the half marathon and features an 8.4 mile first leg and 4.7 mile second leg across the flat, fast course through the desert scenery of Phoenix and Tempe. The transition area where relay teams will begin the second leg will be located at the Chinese Cultural Center in Phoenix, with convenient access to the light rail station at 44th St. & Washington St.

“In what is typically considered an individual sport, the relay adds a fun new angle to the Rock ‘n’ Roll experience,” said Elizabeth O’Brien, Event Director. “This new event provides a great entry point to the sport and enables runners of all abilities to experience the excitement of a Rock ‘n’ Roll half-marathon with a friend or family member.”

Relay teams will experience all the excitement and fun of a Rock ‘n’ Roll event, with live bands along every mile of the course and enthusiastic cheerleaders keeping all the participants motivated through whatever distance they choose. Race day will end with a rockin’ celebration at the finish line festival and headline concert at Arizona State University’s Sun Angel Stadium.

Each team member will receive a T-shirt, medal, swag bag and commemorative Rock ‘n’ Roll race baton. The entry fee is $85 for each participant and registration is open online at arizona.competitor.com/register/. Space is limited to 500 teams.

About the P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon & ½ Marathon

The 8th annual P.F. Chang’s Rock ‘n’ Roll Arizona Marathon, ½ Marathon and relay will take place Sunday, January 16th, 2011. The fast, flat and scenic courses give runners a first class tour of the desert cities of Phoenix, Scottsdale and Tempe.
