2025 Vancouver Sun Run Celebrates with Over 50,000 Runners

Starting on Georgia Street in downtown Vancouver, participants of all ages and abilities— runners, joggers, walkers, and wheelchair athletes—navigated a scenic 10K route through the West End, English Bay, Burrard Street Bridge, South False Creek, and Mount Pleasant, finishing at the iconic BC Place Stadium. The 2.5K Eva Air Mini Sun Run, designed for families and younger participants, kicked off earlier at 8:00 AM, adding to the festive atmosphere with thousands more joining the celebration.

“The 2025 Vancouver Sun Run was a resounding success, with over 50,000 runners spread across 1,500 teams—the largest field since 2009,” said Rose Isla, Event Operations & Marketing Manager. “For the past four years, our operations team has worked closely with the RaceReach team to support our high registration volume and associated event communications needs. Together, the VSR staff and RaceReach continue to improve our operations, and the runner experience gets better every year.”

The event showcased athletic excellence, with Sam Atkin (UK) claiming the men’s title in 28:09, followed closely by Canadian Olympian Cam Levins in second place. Defending women’s champion Glynis Sim secured her second consecutive victory with a thrilling finish at 32:54, edging out three-time champion Natasha Wodak. Paulo Guerrero of North Vancouver won the wheelchair race in 33:02, and Hudson Irvine of White Rock led the non- binary category with a time of 34:50.

Beyond the competition, the Vancouver Sun Run fostered community spirit, with nearly 51,000 registered participants, of which over 39,000 completed the 10K. The event featured live entertainment from bands like The Neurotics at the starting line, alongside 18 other performers along the route, energizing runners and spectators alike.

TransLink supported the influx of participants by boosting SkyTrain, SeaBus, and West Coast Express services, while road closures, including a multi-hour shutdown of the Burrard Street Bridge, ensured a safe and smooth race day. The post-race party at BC Place Stadium offered refreshments, entertainment, and an awards ceremony celebrating top finishers and youth team achievements.

Since its inception in 1985 with just 4,027 runners, the Vancouver Sun Run has grown into a global phenomenon, having welcomed approximately 1.5 million participants over four decades. The 2025 edition, with its record-breaking turnout, reaffirmed its legacy as a celebration of health, community, and athletic achievement.
