2014 Virgin Money London Marathon ballot closes in record time

By GRR 0

We never stop going the extra mile to ensure that every step of the marathon is a world-class running experience, so we were thrilled recently when the 2014 Virgin Money London Marathon ballot closed in record time.

Just 11 hours and 25 minutes after we opened the ballot for the 2014 Virgin Money London Marathon, it closed – beating the previous record (set in 2012) by five hours. In total, more than 125,000 runners have been accepted into the ballot.

"We expected a high demand, after the success of this year's race on Sunday 21 April, but even we were surprised by such a fantastic reaction to the opening of the entry ballot," our Race Director, Hugh Brasher, said afterwards.

"As we run a ballot and don't allocate spaces on a first-come first-served basis, all applicants will be on an equal footing," he added. "The ballot will be drawn in October, giving all successful applicants seven months to train for this fantastic challenge."

If you didn't manage to sign up to the ballot, there are other ways to secure a place in the 2014 Virgin Money London Marathon. Plenty of charities will have places for runners keen to fundraise.

The charities tend to allocate these places to runners who have agreed to raise a certain amount of money for the charity.

You might also be able to secure a place via a ‘Good for age' entry if you've already run a marathon in a fast time. Click here to find out more.

The 2014 Virgin Money London Marathon will take place on Sunday 13 April.
