2013 Great Ethiopian Run on sunday 24th, 2013
Getting ready for a race is like getting ready for a journey. To enjoy a journey, you've got to be well prepared – and so it is with the race, and for most of you reading this that race will be next Sunday's Great Ethiopian Run 10km road race, the 13th edition of the event.
Your training is now all but finished. As fitness improvements take place over weeks not days, your focus over the coming week should shift away from your training and more towards the detail of race day next weekend.
First, you need to decide when you'll be heading to the Expo this coming week to collect your race pack and tee-shirt.
Next, you'll need to set aside some time to have a look at the new start and finish area being used for this year's race and the new course route. How will you get to the start and at what time will you need to leave your home? Where are the difficult parts of the course?
And then – quite likely – you might have to coordinate your own plans with those of your friends also going to the race.
Expect to get excited too as race day draws near. It's only once in a year that you get the chance to run with 35,000 others and – don't forget – there's only one city in Africa that gives you the chance to run in such a big road race. (We've been Africa's biggest since 2002.)
And one final thing: this year we're running a photo competition for all our participants, details of which are given in the race magazine. So don't forget your phone or camera next Sunday. Yes, this really is starting to feel like a journey…
