106th Millrose Games on Feb. 16 at The Armory. Pole vaulter Jenn Suhr and long jumper Brittney Reese

The U.S. women were on center stage before 80,000 fans each day at the London Olympics, claiming six of Team USA's nine gold medals in track & field. Two of those golden stars — pole vaulter Jenn Suhr and long jumper Brittney Reese — will be returning to a grand stage at the 106th Millrose Games on Feb. 16 at The Armory.

"It is very exciting that we can showcase the London gold medal winners right here at The Armory during the Millrose Games," said Dr. Norbert Sander, executive director of The Armory Foundation.

Suhr, who resides in the upstate village of Churchville and attended Fredonia High School, topped all Olympic challengers when she cleared 15-7 in London. About six months prior — at the 105th Millrose Games — she cleared 15-0 1/4 to win the Fred Schmertz Women’s Pole Vault event. Suhr took home the silver medal in the 2008 Beijing Olympics. "Winning Olympic Gold was a dream come true for me and now I'm very much looking forward to 2013," Suhr said. "A world-class Millrose Games competition at The Armory gives me a chance to jump right here in my home state."

Reese won her gold medal when she recorded a 23-4 1/2 jump in London. Her exceptional resume includes being a two-time world champion, five-time USA outdoor and two-time USA indoor champion and she was the 2007 NCAA outdoor champ as well. "I want to bring more attention to the women's long jump event so I am very excited about competing in the Millrose Games," Reese said. "As Olympic champion I accept the role as the leader for my event to showcase the talents of athletes who jump, but also all the great athletes in track and field. I hope everyone comes out to watch the Millrose Games to see that track & field is not just every four years during the Olympics. I’m training toward something very special on February 16th so the fans won't soon forget.

"I heard it gets really loud in The Armory and jumpers thrive on that energy. I am planning on winning my third World outdoor long jump title in Moscow in August. So 2013 is very important to me and I hope the Millrose Games helps me accomplish my goals."

Previously The Armory announced a 600-meter matchup between Olympians Duane Solomon and Nick Symmonds as well as a two-mile battle with Bernard Lagat, Lawi Lalang and Cam Levins.
