São Paulo (SP) – The African runners totally dominated the 93rd São Silvestre International Race, held this Sunday in São Paulo. Ethiopian Dawitt Admasu won the men's race with 44min15sec while Kenyan Flomena Daniel was the best female, completing the 15km in 50min18sec, on a day when the podiums had only Africans athletes.

For Brazil, Joziane Cardoso was the best placed in the women's, with the tenth place, with the time of 54min07sec and Éderson Vilela Pereira, was the 12th, in the men's race, with 46min58sec.

There were 30,000 runners from 40 countries, celebrating the end of the Brazilian national road race season; having the weather with moments of rain, with about 20oC. The public also, was able to watch and participate of the international circuit with a large foreign domain.

In the men's field, the top ten were from abroad and in the female, only one Brazilian finished as top ten.

After the start, runners from African nations showed that in this edition, they would not give the Brazilians a chance. Already in 4th kilometre, it was clear that the winner definition would not have any national athlete. Among the men, Dawitt well succeeded, claiming the 2nd championship – his first conquest was in 2014.

"I've trained a lot for this event and I'm happy to be able to beat San Silvestre again. I thank the public, my manager and all those who supported me to be here and secure the top of the podium. I will do everything to return to São Paulo next year, and be able to fight for another conquest in Brazil, "said Admasu.

The Brazilian runner Éderson did a more conservative test, but was happy with the result. "Being the best Brazilian in the race this year was something more. We know it's hard to compete with them. The race started strong and since I came from a tough season I could not keep up. In the end, however, it turned out to be very favourable, "he said.
In the female race, Flomena, 2nd last year, returned to win.

"Thank to the organization, It was a very good competition and I'm happy to come back and win. It was complicated because of the rain and the climbs. Last year I missed out on the strategy and finished second, but this year everything worked out, "he said.

Joziane Cardozo returned to be the best national athlete in São Silvestre, this time coming in tenth, and highlighted the strength of the opponents.
