By GRR 0

Welcome to RunFun Travel

This week sees the World Marathon Challenge kick off in Antarctica, then travelling to Cape Town, Perth, Dubai, Lisbo and Cartagena before finishing in Miami. 7 Marathons, 7 Continents, 7 Days…. one WINNER!

We have made our way to Perth to assist with the Australian leg of the event, which will be conducted tonight, with a planned start of around 9:00pm. See ya there!

Runners always love medals but when you are a Grand Slam tennis player, where does the NYCM rank in importance? Read below to get Caroline Wozniacki's view on the importance of her run in NY and the medal that came with it.

Visit our website to keep updated with events – with guaranteed entries available to many marathons around the world and our association with so many organisers, we can usually find a way to get you to your destination. We can't put all the marathons on our website but we can help you get there.

How Important is Your NYCM Medal?

Caroline Wozniacki broke through to win her first ever Grand Slam final last weekend, discarding the hoodoo that has followed her since she became better known for being the #1 (for 67 weeks) who didn't win a slam rather than for her longevity in tennis.

Wozniacki places great importance on her fitness; her sheer grit, guts and backhand took her to the final in the Australian Open and the title she has been waiting to win – her first Grand Slam. Wozniacki's win on Saturday night, against Simona Halep, lasted 2hrs 49minutes, just 37 minutes less than her time for the 2014 NY City Marathon.

In a recent interview, Wozniacki claimed the most impressive thing she has done is run the NYCM in under 3½ hours. After hitting the wall at 21 mile, her pacers dragged her through the barrier and onto the finish line. "It was the toughest thing I've ever done physically in my life" she claimed afterwards. Given her gruelling schedule on the tennis tour, that is quite a claim

And what of the medal? Wozniacki went onto say that all her tennis trophies are at her parents' house. Yet her NYCM marathon medal she keeps at home – "that's the only trophy I have out in my house." That is the importance she places on her medal.

Rottnest – You May Never Leave!

With views that will stay in your memory for a lifetime, the Rottnest Running Festival has to be on your list of "marathons I must do in the most unbelievably beautiful places in the world." I'm pretty sure you're familiar with that list. If not, drop me an email.

Having worked with the Western Australia Marathon Club (WAMC) for many years  in the promotion of road running, we are pleased to bring this event to our runners, both local and international.

Just a 30 minute ferry ride off the coast of WA (Western Australia) lies Rottnest Island, a total of 19 sq. km of extraordinary beauty with stunning scenery and white sand beaches. And, of course, the world's friendliest animal, the quokka. For those not familiar with quokkas please google Federer Rottnest to catch up.

So what more info do you need?
  • you can choose from the Marathon, Half, 10km or 5km
  • there is plenty of accommodation of various standards
  • the beaches are impossibly beautiful
  • you need to go there at least once in your life (the Fed says so)

Swiss Alpine Splendour

The Swiss Alpine Marathon becomes more popular with runners as time goes on. Why?
  • stunning scenery (a theme of this weeks' update)
  • great organisation
  • a range of events, from 10km to 127km
  • fabulous entry & accommodation packages
  • fully escorted tour

Having worked extensively in Switzerland I can attest to it being one of the most visually stunning countries I've had the pleasure of spending time in. The mountains, the lakes, the people, the cosy cafes and restaurants…. it's all so spellbinding.

When you add in one of the best trail running events in the world, the draw is irresistible. We have plenty of options for you, from 3-9nts in very comfortable 4* accommodation with events all week long to keep you entertained.
