ICSSPE and the DKB-ISTAF are pleased to invite you to our 3rd annual ICSSPE/DKB-ISTAF Symposium on Saturday, 15 September 2007 in the Estrel Hotel in Berlin, Germany.

After the success of the previous years‘ symposia discussing altitude training and talent identification and development, this year’s focus is on elite schools of sport. Researchers, elite athletes, as well as other representatives of sport, politics and administration will discuss their experiences and views on various elite sport school models and structures in different countries around the world, and how high quality education can be combined with high performance athleticism.

Discussion topics among others are:
– Application and identification criteria;
– Funding concepts;
– Online, distance learning;
– Daily tasks for students;
– Drop-out rates; and
– Athletic and academic success.

Paticipants of this year’s symposium include:
– Prof. Dr. Gudrun Doll-Tepper (ICSSPE, Germany);
– Ms. Tuuli Merikoski-Silius (Finnish Olympic Committee, Finland);
– Dr. Bernhard Schwank (German Olympic Sports Confederation, Germany);
– Dr. Elio Locatelli (IAAF, Italy);
– Dr. Sabine Radtke (University of Stirling, Scotland; Freie Universität Berlin, Germany);
– Mr. Cameron Hodgson (National Sport School, Calgary, Canada)

The symposium will be presented in English and German. Simultaneous translation will be available.

Participants can visit the DKB-ISTAF athletics meeting on 16 September 2007 at the Olympic Stadium in Berlin. The DKB-ISTAF is part of the IAAF Golden League and one of the largest athletics meetings in the world. This year, ISTAF is taking place for the 66th time since its establishment on 1 August, 1937. The top international athletics athletes will compete for the Golden League jackpot, worth 1 Million US$. A limited number of tickets will be available to the symposium attendees at a special offer.

Please forward this information to your colleagues that may be interested in attending. There is no cost to attend the symposium, but please register your interest before 24 August 2007 to icsspe@icsspe.org
