Marine Corps Marathon Healthy Kids Fun Run Celebrates 10 Years in 2009!
QUANTICO, VA (April 30, 2009)- The Healthy Kids Fun Run will celebrate its tenth anniversary on Saturday, October 24 when the annual event is held in Arlington, Virginia as part of Marine Corps Marathon weekend. Children ages 6-13 may register to participate in the un-timed, one-mile confidence building run where everyone is a winner. Registration opens online at www.marinemarathon.com beginning on May 13 at noon eastern and is expected to reach capacity.
“The Healthy Kids Fun Run has spent the last decade exciting children about running and physical fitness,” said Rick Nealis, Marine Corps Marathon Director. “The event remains committed to the Marine Corps value of physical excellence while cultivating a new generation of runners.”
Children will join Miles and Molly, the MCM mascots, and uniformed Marines at the start line before running the one-mile course around the Pentagon North parking lot. Throughout the day, families are invited to Camp Miles, the open-to-all activity area featuring interactive challenges, entertainment, games and giveaways focusing on health and fitness.
Pre-registration for one of the three start times is required. Start options include 10:30 a.m., 11:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m. The $5 entry fee includes a t-shirt, goodie bag, medal and snacks at the finish line.
