Javelin world record holder Barbora Špotáková and hurdler Petr Svoboda will lead the 41-member Czech team at the European Athletics Championships to be held in Barcelona between 26 July and 1 August.

The Czech athletics federation announced the team that includes 22 women and 19 men athletes after the conclusion of the national championships in Silesia over the weekend.

Hurdles star Svoboda and Lucie Škrobáková highlighted the championships with scintillating performances.

European indoor medallist Lucie Škrobáková stormed to a meeting record of 12.90 in the women’s 100m hurdles while Svoboda finished just 0.04 second behind his personal best clocking 13.33 in the 110m hurdles.

Jiřina Ptáčníková set a championships’ record 4.66m in the women’s pole vault and had two good attempts at the national record of 4.76m but without success.

In the women’s 100m, Kateřina Čechová confirmed her status as the leading Czech sprinter with a winning time of 11.59, while Jana Veleba clocked 10.46 to take the men’s 100m title.

Discus thrower Libor Malina secured his 13th national title with a throw of 60.11m and long distance runner Petra Kamínková added seventeenth gold medal to her collection of national title with a victory in the 10000m race.

World record holder Barbora Špotáková emerged as a clear winner in the women’s javelin with a 61.32m throw. Vítězslav Veselý also benefited from good weather conditions and won the men’s title with a throw of 81.72m.

Decathlon specialist Roman Šebrle, the only title defender from Göteborg, won’t be able to defend his title in Barcelona due to a hamstring injury.
