European Athletics is delighted to announce the nominations for the 2010 European Athletics Rising Star Awards presented by Mondo, recognising the future stars of the sport in Europe.

Voting takes place on the European Athletics website until 24 September 2010 from a shortlist that includes stars from this year's World Junior Championships and Youth Olympic Games and other young athletes who performed exceptionally well this year.

Winners will be decided by votes from the general public, media, European Athletics Member Federations, and a panel of experts, with the results from each group of voters counting for one quarter of the athlete's final score.

The winners of the European Athletics Rising Star Awards along with the winners of the European Athlete of the Year Awards presented by Mondo will be invited to receive their awards during the European Athletics Convention in Budapest on Saturday 16 October.

Each voter must select their five preferred athletes and rank them in order of priority. Members of the public who vote will be automatically entered into a prediction competition. Entrants who have voted for the top three male and female athletes in the correct order in the poll will be entered into a draw to win a three-night trip for two to the 2011 European Athletics Indoor Championships in Paris. There will also be some runners-up prizes.

Speaking about the Rising Star Awards, European Athletics President Hansjörg Wirz said: "European Athletics has always focused resources on the development of the next generation of athletes.

"I think you will find a number of future Olympic and world champions on the nomination form and we look forward to seeing who will win the European Athletics Rising Star Awards for 2010."

Triple jumper Teddy Tamgho of France and discus star Sandra Perkovic of Croatia are nominated in both the Athlete of the Year and Rising Star categories because of their outstanding achievements in what has been their breakthrough year.

No athlete who has previously served a two-year doping ban can be nominated for the European Athletics Rising Star award.
