Norway, the latest TV agreement secured
Monte-Carlo – The IAAF is delighted to announce the conclusion yesterday of a broadcasting agreement by IEC in Sports, IAAF’s exclusive media rights agency for Europe and Africa, with the company NRK for the territory of Norway for the period 2011 to 2013.
NRK is the public broadcaster and EBU member in Norway and had been a broadcast partner of the IAAF until 2009, through the contract which the IAAF had with the EBU for European media rights. NRK will now continue supporting world athletics for the next three years including the IAAF World Championships in Daegu (2011) and Moscow (2013).
With this announcement the vast majority of Scandinavia is now covered, agreements with terrestrial channels in Finland (YLE) and Sweden (SVT/TV4) having been announced earlier in 2010.
“The Nordic countries are one of the traditional heartlands of our sport so to have concluded a Norwegian deal is excellent news which will help secure the continued popularity and prosperity of athletics in the area,” commented IAAF President Lamine Diack. “This agreement includes very strong broadcast guarantees for IAAF events on NRK terrestrial channels, which is further good news for the sport of athletics.”
