Sao Silvestre Int’l Race – Registrations for the 86th São Silvestre Race are coming to a close – Traditional Brazilian race will be held on the last day of the year, in São Paulo, and 90% of 21 000 slots have already been filled
São Paulo (SP)- Runners wanting to participate in the Sao Silvestre Int’l Race need to hurry up. Registrations for the 86th edition of Brazil’s most traditional race, held on December 31st, are coming to a close fast. According to the race’s organizers, 90% of 21.000 slots have been filled but there is still room for more runners. Athletes interested in joining the race can register at www.saosilvestre.com.br. Registration fee is BRL$ 100.00 (US$ 58.00).
The 15K-race course is the same as in previous editions. It starts in front of MASP Museum (1578, Paulista Ave.) and finishes at Casper Líbero Foundation building (900, Paulista Ave.).
In 2009, Kenyan athletes James Kwambai, Elias Chelimo, and Robert Cheruiyot occupied the top three spots. Clodoaldo Gomes da Silva was the best qualifying Brazilian runner, finishing in eighth place. In the women’s category, the champion, Pasalia Chepkorir, also hailed from Kenya. Marily dos Santos was the top Brazilian athlete, coming in third.
The San Silvestre Race is organized by Casper Líbero Foundation and promoted by Gazeta Esportiva Net and Globo TV Network.
The Race is sponsored by Caixa Econômica Federal and Oi and supported by HCor, Montevérgine, Gatorade, and Cafe 3 Corações; it also counts on a special support from the Sao Paulo city Government. Supervision is performed by CBAt, FPA, IAAF, and AIMS.
