Athletics Ireland – News – World Age Group Record for Bobby King

Today’s Woodie’s DIY Masters indoor championships at Nenagh stadium produced some exciting competition. One of the highlights of the day came in the men’s 3,000m walk where Bobby King (St. Coca’s AC) set a new world O65 age group record with a time of 15:19.02.

Fastest time in the walks went to Olympian Jimmy McDonald (Menapians AC) who won the O45 category in a time of 13:30.47.

One of the best races of the day came in the men’s 800m where Joe Gough (West Waterford AC) and Philip O’Doherty (Clonliffe Harriers) fought out a thrilling race. With a lap to go it was O’Doherty who led, but was passed shortly after by Gough, but he was unable to shake off his rival. O’Doherty surged again entering the finishing straight, just enough to bring him past Gough for a good win. O’Doherty won the O50 gold and Gough the O55 gold. Gough also won the O55 400m in 60.47.

Elizabeth Cuskelly (Tullamore Harriers) finished well clear to win both the women’s O35 1500m and 3,000m
