Run Amuck Introduces New Challenges for Even Dirtier Fun – Registration closing soon for Marine Corps Marathon’s muddiest event on Saturday, June 11, 2011

QUANTICO, Va. – Excitement is building on Marine Corps Base Quantico as the messy, muddy, murky challenge of Run Amuck prepares to summon participants to Quantico's Butler Stadium. The Saturday, June 11, 2011 Run Amuck will put participants through some of the most arduous challenges to date as they run to overcome deep, dark mud pits and 10 obstacles, including the new spider web, A-frame climb and the inner tube tussle.

Registration for the event is limited but still open at www.marinemarathon.com. Run Amuck's 3.5 mile grimy trek through the woods challenges participants to get down and dirty while blazing through the tire dash, hay bale maze, barricaded hurdles, low crawl, pipe slither and the strenuous climb up the cargo net.

While pacing themselves up and down the Quantico trails, Run Amuck competitors will face two punishing military PT drills, the giant water blast from the Quantico Fire Department and three pits of mud, each deeper than the other, with the largest pit as deep as four feet.

On event morning, three thousand Run Amuck participants will be grouped into waves of 100, as designated by their bib numbers. Runners will be launched in 30 separate waves, beginning at 7:30am.

Not to be outdone by the adults, kids ages five through nine will dare to participate in Kids Run Amuck – a one mile dash through mud and tunnels with obstacles geared for their junior sizes. Kids Run Amuck challenges include the hale bale hop, belly crawl, rope climb, mountain hike, fire hose, tire dash and the hippity ball hop to the finish.

The kid's event already is sold out with 300 participants. Run Amuck and Kids Run Amuck are annually organized by the Marine Corps Marathon and are part of the MCM Event Series of races held March through November.
