Communities and Crisis – Inclusive Development Through Sport is an important and valuable event for those involved in the field of sport for inclusion, social development and crisis management.

This view is being shared by all partners that are, together with ICSSPE, preparing for the seminar, which will be held from 21-26 November, 2011, in Rheinsberg, Germany.

This year´s event is the fourth of its kind and extends upon ICSSPE´s education and training series for a wide range of participants. Attendees will include social workers; psychologists; sociologists; practitioners and students in occupational and physical therapy, sport and physical education, development and peace; and other groups that use or wish to use sport programmes for development and inclusive community building.

Through practice related and hands-on learning sessions, experienced international experts will pass on first-hand knowledge and help to prepare participants for working and using sport as a tool for inclusive community building in social problem and crisis areas.

There was a wide range of comments from previous participants, including “It expanded my horizons on what I can use in my teaching as well as my community involvement and gave us new kinds of approaches in dealing with differences in culture”, and “the seminar is providing me the tools and contacts to create a strong package for refugee support, and gets us another step closer towards coordinated structured efforts in disaster relief.”

Partners and supporters of the seminar are Kennesaw State University, USA; UNESCO; Otto Bock HealthCare GmbH, Fürst Donnersmarck-Foundation and Freie Universität Berlin, all Germany; and the Halle Foundation, USA.
