JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge – Larkin Street Youth Services to benefit from 27th Corporate Challenge
SAN FRANCISCO, July 28, 2011 — Larkin Street Youth Services has been named the beneficiary for the 27th running of the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge, scheduled for September 21.
The JPMorgan Chase Foundation, in honor of all Corporate Challenge participants, will make a donation to the not-for-profit organization’s whose tagline is “Helping Kids Get Off the Street for Good.”
San Francisco’s Larkin Street Youth Services is an internationally recognized leader providing innovative, effective housing, medical, social and educational services to at-risk, homeless and runaway youth. Larkin Street provides the full spectrum of support the youth need for the opportunity they deserve to reach their full potential as adults. Three out of four youth who complete Larkin Street’s comprehensive programs exit street life.
- Since 1984, Larkin Street has provided critical support to over 70,000 homeless and at-risk youth.
- Over 5,700 youth live on the streets or are at risk of homelessness in San Francisco. For most of them, the streets are safer than the homes from which they came.
- Larkin Street serves about two-thirds of San Francisco’s homeless youth and provides 82% of the housing available to at-risk youth.
- Larkin Street provides a place where at-risk youth can feel safe, rebuild their sense of hope, trust and self-respect, learn school, life and job skills, and find the confidence to build a future.
- For every Larkin Street youth that exits street life, society saves more than five times the cost of public sector long-term intervention.
“Larkin Street is honored to be this year's beneficiary of the Corporate Challenge and grateful for J.P. Morgan’s continuing support,” said Sherilyn Adams, Executive Director of Larkin Street Youth Services. “For over 10 years, J.P. Morgan has been our generous community partner on many different levels including sponsorship, holiday gift drives and volunteer support. The Corporate Challenge allows us the opportunity to further connect and bring greater awareness about the needs of homeless and runaway youth to the corporate community.”
The donation from the JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge will help provide a safe place to sleep and a warm bed for hundreds of youth seeking shelter, it will help youth enrolling in City College this fall by providing them with the text books they need, and it will help those youth seeking employment by providing them with internships in companies around San Francisco.
The donation to Larkin Street Youth Services is part of the more than $600,000 in funds the JPMorgan Chase Foundation will provide to not-for-profit organizations in the 13 cities that host JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge Series events.
Registration for the September 21 JPMorgan Chase Corporate Challenge is now available and a record crowd of over 7,500 participants is expected. The event staging area is Lot A at McCovey Cove, with the majority of the 3.5-mile race course on The Embarcadero.
