Sightrunning in Germany – Today: Munich – Munich SightRunning – run and see the city

By GRR 0

SightRunning is a modern form of exploring foreign cities for tourists who like to run, led by professional guides who know the city and its touristic highlights – and the wants and needs of the runners being guided.

Nowadays, many tourists are also runners – and don’t want to explore the city on a tour bus, but would rather see it “on the run”. In August, German Road Races (GRR) began introducing some of the professional sightrunning offers in Berlin, and it will now be continuing the series for other cities that offer this service.

In random order, we will continue to present these opportunities to run in German cities, and will also introduce you to some of those offering the tours. This practice has since propagated itself throughout the world, bringing together fun with utility for runners.

Discover German cities and landscapes together with runners, who want to show you their cities from their best side. Enjoy your running tour, and get ready for many discoveries in the cities of Germany.

No matter if you are in Munich as tourist, business traveller or amateur runner, with Munich SightRunning Stelzel you can improve your fitness and experience the Isar metropolis' sights at the same time. It's not about setting track records, but rather to get to know Munich and to enjoy the joint running experience in a city you don't know.

An experienced SightRunning-Guide will pick you up at your city hotel or any other meeting place and will take you on a one hour run to the cultural, architectural and historical highlights of Munich.

  • The running distance is between 6 and 11 kilometers and will take about 60 minutes: You'll set the pace and whilst passing the sights you'll learn all there is to know about Munich in general and your specific tour.
  • Book an exclusive run just for you or run in a small group of up to four people, daily between 6 am and 9 pm or upon arrangement, last-minute bookings are possible too.
  • In the morning before a stressful conference, during your lunch break or in the evening after the days' work is done you can explore the city accompanied by a qualified city guide.
  • It doesn't matter on which of the five offered tours you decide on: You won't only learn about the predominant focus or your specific tour, but you will also learn about Munich in general, its people and its history. In addition I'll be happy to answer your questions and take your suggestions into consideration at all times – including the Hofbräuhaus!

Route City-Highlights (Distance approx. 6 bis 9 km)

This tour will „fast-track" you past Munich's highlights – the St. Mary's Square (Marienplatz) with the Old and New Town Halls, Munich's landmark: the Church of our Lady (Frauenkirche), the Victuals Market (Viktualienmarkt), the Church of St. Peter (Alten Peter), the Residence, the Bavarian State Opera, the Old Court (Alte Hof), Odeon's Square (Odeonsplatz) with the Theatiner Church (Theatinerkirche), the English Garden with the Chinese Tower (Chinesischer Turm), the Ludwigstrasse, the Maximilianstrasse, the Victory Gate (Siegestor), the Asam Church (Asamkirche) as well as the St. Michael's Church (Michaelskirche; the largest Renaissance church north of the alps), the Hofbräuhaus, the German Museum, the Isar Gate (Isartor), the Angel of Peace (Friedensengel), the Eisbach (a stretch of the river Isar known for surfing) and much more.

Please don't be scared! We admit that the programme includes a huge load of history, architecture and impressions. To make sure the joy of running isn't left behind we take a few detours into calmer areas like the Court Garden (Hofgarten), Maximilian's parks and the old Southern Cemetery (Südfriedhof).

It's best to run this tour in the morning or at lunchtime, as it is right in the city centre and might get really busy in the afternoon – it's not suitable for Advent Saturdays either!

  • Venue: St. Mary's Square (Marienplatz) (tram/streetcar and underground station) or any individual meeting point

Book your tour by clicking on the cart icon right next to the tour. You are also welcome to call me on +49 (0) 176-570 833 02 to arrange a specific date and pay at the meeting point.
