Marine Corps Historic Half Uncorks Partnership with DelFosse Vineyards & Winery

QUANTICO, Va. – To highlight the celebration of the fifth anniversary of the Marine Corps Historic Half marathon on Sunday, May 20 in Fredericksburg, Va., the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM) has partnered with Faber, Va.'s DelFosse Vineyards & Winery to create two commemorative Historic Half labeled wines.

"This year's Historic Half is a real celebration and partnering with an award-winning vineyard is a great way to toast the event's success and the runners' accomplishments," said Rick Nealis, MCM Director.

The special Historic Half labels Patriot Blue Pinot Gris, a 100 percent Pinot Gris aged seven months in French oak barrels, and Star Spangled White, a blend of Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc and Viognier, will be available for sampling and purchasing at the Healthy Lifestyle Expo on Friday, May 18 and Saturday, May 19. Signature DelFosse label wines Deer Rock Red, a blend of Merlot and Chambourcin, and DelFosse Merlot, a classic Merlot aged ten months in French oak barrels and estate bottled in 2008, also will be available.

DelFosse Vineyards & Winery began their grape planting operation in 2003 featuring European-styled terraced vineyards, and their first vintage was bottled in 2004. The winery offers a tasting room, wine dinners, food and wine pairings, private event hosting and hiking and biking on their sprawling 330-acre property. DelFosse wines have earned medals in the Eastern Wine Competition and Virginia's Governor's Cup.

The Marine Corps Historic Half marathon is located halfway between the nation's capital in Washington, D.C. and the capital of the Commonwealth of Richmond, VA. The Marine Corps Historic Half marathon is coordinated by organizers of the Marine Corps Marathon (MCM). The 2012 Marine Corps Historic Half marathon is sponsored by Dominion Virginia Power, Geico, Washington Area Chevy Dealers, Marine Federal Credit Union, Mary Washington Healthcare and the University of Mary Washington.
