Athletics Australia – News – Huffer fourth in NYC 5th Avenue Mile
Australian middle distance runner Craig Huffer (Vic) has placed fourth in the prestigious New York Fifth Avenue Mile.
The 22-year-old recorded a time of 3:53.5. He was hot on the heels of the world’s fastest including 2011 World Championships 1500 metre medalist Matthew Centrowitz (USA) (1st – 3:52.4), multiple Olympic and World Championship medalist Bernard Lagat (USA) (2nd – 3:52.9) and 2012 Olympic silver medalist Leo Manzano (USA) (3rd – 3:53.1).
Fellow Australian, Olympian Ryan Gregson (NSW) (3:53.7) finished closely behind in fifth .
The result marks a comeback for Huffer who withdrew from the 2012 Australian Olympic Trials after an injury plagued 2011 which included two surgeries.
He finally returned to full training in June this year and has been rapidly improving ever since with a win at Molndal mile in Sweden on August 4 followed up with an 800 metre personal best at the Copenhagen Athletic Games on August 21.
With thanks to Denis Huffer
