89. Kosice Peace Marathon/SLOVAKIA on october 7, 2012 – Last bib numbers are remaining

The Košice Peace Marathon is the oldest marathon in Europe and the third-oldest in the world (after the Boston Marathon and the Yonkers Marathon).

The first course was held in 1924. The marathon takes place each year on the first October Sunday. The first women's race was held in 1980.

The course is flat, completely asphalted and traffic free, two laps in the historic city center of Košice, Slovakia.

The men's course record is held by Kenya's Gilbert Kiptoo Chepkwony, who ran a time of 2:08:33 hours in 2010. The women's record of 2:30:50 hours was set at the 2009 edition by Olena Burkovska of Ukraine.  (Wikipedia)  
     

Marathon 42,195 KM

The classic marathon of 42,195 km long. The town circuit, without a significant ascent, with a hard asphalt surface is undertaken by the marathon runners twice. Runners in the half marathon do one round. The races take place according to the IAAF rules, with the exclusion of public transport. The course has a valid IAAF/AIMS certificate.

Just as you may read in the more detailed race info, speak about a typical town marathon with its start and finish in the absolute center of the metropolis.

Four days before the start organizers report last bib numbers, the final number exceed 7 300.

City of Košice together with team of the European Capital of Culture is preparing a magnificent Nuit Blanche/White Night on the eve of KPM.

Place for winners – the Statue of the Marathon runner needs new granite blocks.

Organizers presented last athletes with the fastest personal bests, among them also Evans Ruto (KEN, PB 2:08:36).

Organizers are preparing online live stream, RTVS will broadcast a one hour record in the afternoon prime time.

Fourteen days before the start 7.055 registered runners. Organizers presented other favourites with personal bests under 2h10.

Three weeks before start is almost 6.900 registered runners.

At the start will be also a world record holder in the Blind Marathon.
Anna Oroszová will be again in Košice after the London Paralympic Games.

The Getrag Marathon 4 x ¼ will run Richard Raši, Milan Ftáčnik, Martin „Sajfa“ Cifra or Igor Timko.
Last year´s champion Elijah Kemboi is one of the slowest of this year favourites on the grounds of his previous results
