On 14 October the medibank Melbourne Marathon in Australia celebrates its 35th edition.

The Beijing Marathon, scheduled for 14 October is, according to the China International Travel Service, "prone to delay" (read more).

In Europe  the 13th Poznan Marathon takes place in Poland  and  in Serbia's second city. In the north of Italy the Maratona d'Italia celebrates its silver Jubilee. Across the Alps the Munich Marathon this year incorporates the German Championships. Further north the Rhein Energie Marathon Koln also takes place in Germany while the De Lage Landen Eindhoven Marathon is held in the Dutch town for the 29th time.

Across the Atlantic the Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon is held in Canada's largest and most cosmopolitan metropolis.
