Athletics New Zealand – News – Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon – 14 October 2012 – Mary Davies
CANADA – Scotiabank Toronto Waterfront Marathon – 14 October 2012
Mary Davies slashed nearly ten minutes off her personal best in winning the Toronto Marathon this morning in a time of 2h 28m 57s.
The 30 year old former Whangarei runner now based in Ottawa was nearly a minute ahead of Agnes Kiprop of Kenya with a further minute to Radiya Adilo of Ethiopia.
She was through the first 10km in 34m 39s and the half way in 1h 13m 39s.
Davies previous best marathon was 2h 38m 48s set at the world championships in Berlin in 2009.
Her aim in entering the Toronto marathon was to post a qualifying time for the world championships in Moscow next August. Although the performance standards for Moscow are yet to be announced by the IAAF, her time which now ranks her the fourth fastest on the New Zealand women’s all time list should see her running in Moscow. Kimberley Smith heads the list with 2h 25m 21s, followed by Lorraine Moller 2h 28m 17s and Mary O’Connor 2h 28m 20s.
