Challenging sports events along the North Sea coastline – PWN Egmond Half Marathon and AGU Egmond-Pier-Egmond ATB beach race –
On 12 and 13 January 2013 thousands of sports enthusiasts come to the Dutch coastal town Egmond aan Zee to participate in the PWN Egmond Half Marathon or the AGU Egmond-Pier-Egmond ATB beach race.
These heroic events with their course along the beach and through the dunes yearly attract 17,500 runners and 3,500 bikers. Among them hundreds of athletes from countries like Germany, Belgium, France, Great Britain, Spain and Russia.
Participating in Egmond aan Zee is a real challenge. The PWN Egmond Half Marathon is the toughest 21.1 km in Holland because of the unpredictable weather, the sandy beach, dunes, wind and low temperatures. Therefore the Dutch runners call this event a real winter classic, which you must have experienced at least once in your life. Every year international top athletes come to Egmond to compete in this unique race. For example the newly crowned half marathon world champion, Meseret Hailu, won the last edition in the sixth fastest time ever.
One day earlier on 12 January the AGU Egmond-Pier-Egmond takes place for the 15th time. This 36 km ATB beach race is the longest beach race of the Benelux and starts at the boulevard of Egmond aan Zee. The course takes the participants across the beach to Wijk aan Zee where the turning point is situated after 17 km. Every year the best Dutch cyclists battle against each other in this race.
Enter for one of these heroic events and your new year will be off to a good start.
Registration for both events is possible until 16 December 2012.

People who prefer to walk, can come to Egmond aan Zee in the weekend of 26 and 27 January 2013 for the PWN Egmond Walking Marathon.
This walking event consists of two beautiful routes along the beach and through the North Holland Dune Reserve.
