Norfolk Freedom Marathon Supports Veterans

NORFOLK, Va. – The Norfolk Freedom Marathon is scheduled for Veteran’s Day weekend, Friday to Sunday, November 9-11, 2012.

"The race benefits the needs of our veterans, and what better weekend to do just that!" says CEO and Executive Director Manny Cordero.

The second edition of the Norfolk Freedom Marathon & Half Marathon also includes the Wounded Warrior & Family Fun Run/Walk 5k, Team Cup Challenge (Military , Organization, Scholastic challenges), Eagle & Freedom Challenge (run the 5k on Saturday and the Marathon or Half Marathon on Sunday and earn a third finisher medal), Kids Warrior Mile, and the Health and Fitness Expo at the Norfolk Scope Arena.  The beautiful city of Norfolk, Virginia will co-sponsor and host our second annual events.

Freedom Marathon, Inc.’s mission is to raise awareness and engage the public through running and walking to support the needs of veterans and their families, delivering a message of hope and assuring them that America has not forgotten their sacrifices.  There are no dues or fees to join Freedom Marathon, Inc. 

"We believe those are paid on the battlefield and in service to our Country.  Freedom Marathon, Inc. believes the greatest casualty is forgetting our veterans.  We will also support local charitable municipality initiatives critical to the vitality of the region," Cordero said.

The weekend begins Friday with the Freedom Health & Fitness Expo. Saturday starts off with the Freedom Mile – Kids' Warrior Trot (kids 12 years old and under – age on race day). Also on Saturday are the Wounded Warrior & Family Fun Run/Walk 5k, and The Freedom Health & Fitness Expo.

Sunday wraps up the weekend with the Norfolk Freedom Marathon & Half Marathon, Norfolk Freedom Marathon & Half Marathon Wheelchair Race, Norfolk Freedom Marathon Four-Person Relay, Norfolk Freedom Half Marathon Two-Person Relay, Norfolk Freedom Marathon & Half Marathon Cup Challenge (Team Race) followed by the Post Race Celebration and Freedom Awards Ceremony.
