USA Track & Field – News – Team USA finishes third at Chiba Ekiden

INDIANAPOLIS – Team USA finished third at the Chiba International Ekiden, which is an annual relay competition featuring 13 nations.

Team USA’s time of 2:06:36 comfortably protected their spot on the podium with fourth place Russia finishing more than two and a half minutes back in (2:09:31).
 
Kenya took first place (2:05:06), and Japan finished second (2:05:16).

The race features mixed teams of men and women running six alternating legs totaling 42.195 km as follows: 1st leg, men 5 km; 2nd leg, women 5 km; 3rd leg, men 10 km; 4th leg, women 5 km; 5th leg, men 10 km; 6th leg, women 7.195 km. Team USA finished fifth the past two years.

Team USA individual results are as follows:

First leg: James Strang, 5 km, 14:06, 9th
Second leg: Chelsea Reilly, 5 km, 15:29, 3rd
Third leg: Jacob Riley, 10 km, 28:46, 2nd
Fourth leg: Emma Kertesz, 5 km, 16:25, 3rd
Fifth leg: Galen Rupp, 10 km, 28:20, 1st
Sixth leg: Neely Spence, 7.195 km, 23:30 3rd
