Athletics Ireland – News – Aviva Irish Schools’ Combined Event Team Set for Glasgow
The AVIVA Irish Schools’ teams will compete at the annual Schools’ Combined Events International in the new state of the art Emirates Arena in Glasgow on Saturday 1st of December. They will be up against the best schools’ combined eventers in England, Scotland and Wales. As usual, the team to beat will be the English Schools’.
The Irish Schools’ team will be spearheaded by Sam Healy (Carrigaline Community School) in the boys under 18 competition. Healy claimed the Irish schools’ title last September with a score of 3,752 points and will be joined on the team by Mark Rogers (St Joseph’s CBS, Drogheda), Christian Robinson (Carrickfergus Grammar School) and Ciaran Corrigan (O’Carolan School, Nobber)
Amy McTeggart (O.L Greenhills, Drogheda) smashed the 3,000 point barrier on route to victory at the Irish Schools’, this included an impressive 1.64m clearance in the High Jump. McTeggart will lead the girls under 18 team in Glasgow, along with Grace McKenzie (Scoil Mhuire, Crosshaven), Niamh Quinn (Scoil Chriost Ri, Portlaoise) and Jayne Pennyfather (Carrigaline Community School)
The under 16 girls team will be led by Irish Schools Champion Elizabeth Morland (Dunshaughlin Community College), who, like McTeggart, surpassed the 3,000 point barrier when taking that title. Daniel Ryan (Thurles CBS) was a clear winner of the under 16 boys Irish Schools’ title and is likely to challenge for a top position on Saturday.
