USA Track & Field – News – Young stars to compete at USATF National Youth Indoor Track & Field Championships
INDIANAPOLIS – More than 1,300 athletes will compete for national honors this weekend at the USATF National Youth Indoor Track & Field Championships in Prince George’s County, Md.
The championships are hosted by the Potomac Valley Association and will be held at the Prince George’s County Sports and Learning Complex.
Athletes to watch include:
Zoe Gilbertson is the top entrant in the 13-14 girls 55m hurdles and enters the high jump with the second-best mark of the field. Gilbertson is a two-time USA Youth Indoor champion after winning both the hurdles and high jump last year. Her brother Max Gilbertson is also the reigning champion in the high jump and will be competing in the boys 15-16 age-group.
Claire Graves is one of the top contenders in the girls 15-16 age-group distance events. Graves has the fastest entered time in the 3,000m and 1,500m and the fourth fastest time in the 800m.
Madison Daniel is the top entrant in the boys 15-16 age-group 3,000m and 1,500m.
In the boys 15-16 age-group Marcus Krah is a favorite to win both in the field events and on the track. Krah has the top entry marks in the triple jump, long jump and 55m hurdles.
Aaron Robinson could run away from the field in the boys 13-14 age-group 400m and 800m. In the 400m, he boasts the best time of the field (55.69) by nearly two seconds, and in the 800m (2:16.98) he has run nearly four seconds faster than the rest of his age-group.
Dylan Carter enters the boys 11-12 age-group shot put as a clear favorite after winning the Junior Olympic Outdoor Track & Field Championships in Baltimore last summer. Carter owns the outdoor national record for the 9-10 age-group. Carter is entered with a mark of 13.98m/45-10.5, nearly four meters farther than his closest competitor.
